hence, inviting members to think of avenues through which we could fundraise
for our organization and the organization activities.
The chair reiterated that Cancer
cases are there and some are really very serious and indeed pathetic. He went
on to cite some of the serious cases presented this month to include: Mawejje
Lugwana Fred a born of Luweero and a primary school teacher in Mityana who lost
his mother due cancer which had presented itself in the fibroids. The mother
died in a very painful state after her family spending towards her treatment to
the last penny. The other case is a Deputy Head teacher for St. Jude Primary
School, Kasana who developed cancer after a simple wound which had developed on
his leg. The wound kept on developing to a point where he can no longer appear
for teaching. The other case, are the two children sponsored by Kasana-Luweero education
department in the names of Jackline lost her leg due to cancer. Another case is
a boy also who got his hand amputated due to cancer.
The other case still is an old
man at Wobulenzi has signs of cancer on legs. Cancer prevalence today is high.
We should therefore take time to make research on how many cancer cases we have
in our area.
Min03/12: Reading of minutes
Minutes of the past meeting were
dully read and correction made accordingly.
Min 04/12: Matters arising
In the matters arising, one
members highlighted the issue of interaction with other UCRF members from other
regions and to also share experiences, challenges and to support one another as
UCRF.
Another issue of concern was that
of coming up of teaching manuals on cancer to aid the effective sensitization
of communities on cancer. Thanks to Beatrice for the presentation at
wheels4Life on cancer. Last week, the UCRF Luweero team attended a Wheel4Life
meeting in Masaka and during that meeting, Beatrice introduced UCRF to the
participant who had attended the meeting. Many of the participants got
interested in taking on cancer awareness and scaling out cancer related
services in their areas. The Masaka
group has already invited the Luweero team to go and train them further on
cancer. Masaka group has requested that
since UCRF Luweero is the mother of Masaka, it is their wish that Luweero
mentors them.
Another matters arising, is the upcoming
workshop in Luweero between the UCRF Kampala Artists and UCRF Luweero
Integrated Program. Anita the focal person for the Kampala team, communicated
last Monday of their plan to come over to Luweero for the UCRF workshop. The
workshop is intended to let the two groups develop a common focus together,
members to know one another and also to set a common way forward for UCRF in
Uganda. When this information was
communicated to the meeting, members unanimously welcomed and are only looking
forward to the day which is yet to be communicated.
The other matters arising was the
news of Miss Africa Scotland. UCRF members are proud of Miss Africa Scotland
for the success attained and wish her the best. On this same note, UCRF members
suggest that Miss Africa Scotland find time to visit Uganda once again while still
possessing this honor.
